3 Tips for Raising Baby Kittens

When raising a baby kitten the first thing is to do is to make sure that the kitten is getting its proper nutritional requirements. A kitten is a fragile animal and must be given the proper attention and activity regimen to maintain its health. Kittens are playful creatures. They are curious and often mischievous; one must make sure that he or she has the energy to take care of such a zestful creature.

Here are three important tips for raising a baby kitten:
  1. If children are going to be around the kitten make sure they know how to act around the new creature. Children can often be too rough with new animals and cause serious harm. The harm caused can result in serious injury or death. Leaving a kitten alone with a child younger than about five or who does not know right from wrong could be disastrous for the kitten.
  2. The kitten needs to have the proper tools for hygiene (as crazy as that sounds). A good owner should provide an adequate litter box and make sure that it is cleaned regularly. Also properly raising a kitten means making sure the animal knows where its food and water is.
  3. Make sure that the kitten is getting the affection it needs. Cuddling and playing with the kitten is an important step in its development. Another important step in raising a feline is knowing when to get the animal spayed and/or neutered.
In addition, a kitten should also have all of its shots maintained and should be taken to the vet if any problems occur. Making sure that a kitten's eyes and ears are clean is also an important part of raising a kitten. Checking kitten's gums regularly should also take place to make sure that diseases of the mouth are not an issue. A kitten's gums should be pink not red and their coat should be well maintained and groomed. A flaky scalp and or fleas can cause serious harm to a kitten.
When bringing a kitten home, do not force it into its new surroundings. Let the animal come out on its own and explore his or her new home. A pet carrier is probably the best way to bring a new kitten home. Keeping other animals as at distance with the new kitten at first is also important. Natural instincts could trigger violent reactions from the kitten or any other animals that come into contact with the new kitten. In short make sure the kitten is properly handled, fed, and that its hygiene is the best it can be.
