Octopoteuthis deletron

An Octopoteuthis deletron swims off the California coast, in this December 2007 photo. This tiny squid has a remarkable sex life, say scientists. The male of the species mates with members of its own sex just as often as it does with females. The scientists say they're not surprised, since the five-inch animal lives in permanent darkness, as much as half a mile beneath the Pacific.(AFP/MBARI via Newscom)
