How to distinguish good meats from bad meats

Healthy meat consumption 101 - How to distinguish good meats from bad meats

(NaturalNews) Vegetarians who personally avoid eating meat for health reasons will sometimes suggest to their friends that, in general, eating meat is harmful to health. But the all-encompassing term "meat" is a misnomer, as there are many different kinds of meat that a person can eat -- conventional, feedlot-based meats; organic, grass-fed meats; and everything in between -- and some meats are actually healthy, while others are not.

Most of the meat sold in the meat section at your local grocery store, whether it is beef, chicken, pork, or fish, comes from animals that have been raised in an industrial environment, and fed artificial foodstuffs that would not otherwise have been a part of their natural diet. Conventional beef, for instance, typically comes from cows raised in confinement, that have no access to pasture, and that are fed an unhealthy diet comprised of genetically-modified (GM) corn and soy byproducts during the final stages of their lives.

Throughout their lives, these same conventional cows are often pumped up with artificial growth hormones, including antibiotics that help them develop faster and preliminarily avoid the diseases they would otherwise not develop if they were raised in an unconfined environment. Because their living environments are routinely infested with feces and filth, conventional cows are much more susceptible to disease than, say, pasture-raised cows.

Unnatural diets destroy animal health, quality of meat

Cows are ruminant animals, which means they are meant to eat grass, not corn and soy. When cows eat the latter, their digestive systems largely reject it, making them more prone to developing chronic illness. The term "feedlot bloat" refers to the digestive disordercharacterized by the unnatural development of foam in the rumen -- the rumen is the first compartment of a cow's stomach -- that is a result of eating unnatural feed.

Corn and soy byproducts, in other words, so disrupt cows' digestive systems that the poor animals develop a severe inability to breathe, and sometimes even die. High-grain diets are disastrous for ruminant animals like cows, and yet it has become common practice in today's industrial food system to feed cows high amounts of grains in the last few months prior to their slaughter.

The situation is much the same for chickens and pigs, which are typically held and confinement and fed an unnatural diet that changes the composition of their meat. Even fish meat, much of which is now "farm-raised," comes from fish that are not allowed to feed and develop naturally, which results in a significant compositional change in the quality of their meat.

Choose meat from wild, grass-fed, pasture-raised, organic, unconfined, non-grain-fed animals

The end result of such atrocious animal husbandry practices is that the final meat product is filled with antibiotics, hormones, and various other toxins, as well as imbalanced fat profiles that promote chronic illness and obesity. Industrial meat, in other words, is a serious threat to human health, and humanity would do well to take a more proactive approach in avoiding conventional meats for their own well-being.

So what about things like grass-fed beef? Or pasture-raised chicken and eggs? Or wild salmon? These healthy meats often get lumped in with the unhealthy meats into a single category known as "meat," which is both confusing and inaccurate. It turns out that animals raised in their natural environments, whether that be pasture for cows and chickens or streams and oceans for fish, produce meat that is rich in essential nutrients, healthy fats, amino acids, and high quality proteins.

A simple rule of thumb is to avoid meat from animals that were fed GMO feed, and that were raised in confinement, and instead choose grass-fed, pasture-raised meat from organically-tended animals.

Cloned beef

Cloned beef has now entered the food supply

(NaturalNews) The U.K. Food Standards Agency (FSA) recently announced that the meat from a cloned cow has made its way into the food supply. According to a recent BBC report, a U.K. farmer purchased cloned bull embryos from the U.S., bred the animals and sold one of them as food back in July 2009.

The report states that Steven Innes, the farmer who purchased the cloned embryos and sold the cloned meat, did so in full accordance with the law.

"We investigated whether this was legal at the time and understood that there was no issue," he explained in a statement. "We acted in good faith throughout and have been fully compliant with the relevant authorities."

He went on to explain that the British government had expressly authorized theanimalsto enter the food chain. However, an investigation is currently underway as Innes did not properly notify authorities about thecloned meatnor identify it as such when selling it asfood, two very serious violations.

Tim Smith, chief at FSA, responded to the news by saying he has no specific concerns about the safety of cloned beef enteringthe food supply, but that European law requires those who supply it to get proper approval under "novel" food regulation guidelines before selling it toconsumers.

Smith also expressed that consumers "deserve to know the origin of all foods they purchase".

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration declared in 2008 that meat andmilkfrom cloned animals is safe for human consumption. Biotechnology companies have since been creating cloned animals for the expressed purpose of increasing milk andmeatyield.

Organic meat

Meat: Choose Organic

(NaturalNews) Not so long ago you could only buy organic products at health food stores, but more and more they are popping up in large retail grocery stores. Organic meats like chicken, turkey and beef are now sitting next to their non organic counterparts. But what are organic meats and are they any healthier?

In order for anything to be considered organic it has to meet the standards set by the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture). For an animal, that means they must be fed 100 percent organic feed. They also have to be free-range. That means they must be given access to the outdoors and can`t be confined to buildings. No animal by-products can be given to the animals and they can`t be given antibiotics or growth hormones. For an animal to be raised for its organic beef, chicken or turkey, its mother must have been fed organic feed for at least the last third of gestation.

Organic livestock farming is much different from factory farming. In factory farming many animals are kept in a limited amount of space. They never see the light of day or roam anymore than a few feet. A large amount of animals confined to a small area results in a large amount of animal waste. Excessive amounts of water and chemicals must be used to keep the area clean. This leads to chemicals seeping into the soil and water table. It can also mean that the animals are less likely to be healthy due to their surroundings. This leads them to be treated with antibiotics and other medicines.

So if your beef, chicken or turkey was treated fairly and fed well, does that mean it`s healthier for you? George Seimon, Founder of Organic Valley Family of Farms, explains it this way, "Animals are accumulators, and they become whatever we feed them. Organic farming starts at the bottom of the food chain by raising healthy soil, which grows healthy plants, which grow healthy animals, which make healthy humans."

Organic beef contains a higher content of Conjugated Linoleic Acids which have been reported to reduce LDL cholesterol and prevent cancers. Also, because of the way the cows are fed, organic beef has a lower chance of having E.coli. Organic meats also contain no nitrates, nitrites or preservatives - all of which have shown to have negative effects on human health.

Choosing organic animal products not only will reduce the amount of contaminants we consume, but will also benefit our environment. Organic farming safeguards our ground water since no chemical fertilizers are used. Organic farming is good for you and our planet.

Arsenic eating animals

Animals that People Consume Eat Arsenic

NaturalNews) There are many reasons not to eat meat, but it's likely that most people don't consider avoiding the consumption of arsenic as one of them. But as it turns out, arsenic is regularly feed to chickens and sometimes also to turkeys and pigs. The poultry industry commonly uses additives with arsenic in them to induce weight gain and create the appearance of a healthy color in chicken meat. And it should be noted that if U.S. poultry producers need tocreate the appearanceof a healthy color, then the chickens are likely not healthy to begin with - and feeding them arsenic is only going to make the situation worse.

Arsenic is a known poisonous compound. It's perhaps best known for being the murder weapon of choice among the noble classes from the Roman times to the mid-nineteenth century. At low levels, the consumption of arsenic mimics many chronic diseases, so it's likely you won't know that it's this poison affecting you. At high levels, arsenic is well known to kill.

Medical professionals are commonly under the illusion that our bodies can simply detoxify all of the poisons that most people regularly consume - and that these poisons don't cause the diseases that most of the population suffer from. But, let's be honest. Our body's ability to detoxify us, however powerful, isn't even close to able to remove all of the chemicals that most people regularly take in. Unfortunately, chickens aren't born with the ability to detoxify arsenic either - which is why you consume arsenic in their flesh.

If the chicken you're eating is eating arsenic - you're eating arsenic too. 2004 and 2005 studies confirmed this when they looked at the arsenic levels of raw supermarket and fast food chicken. Arsenic was regularly found. Organic chickens were also tested and were found to contain considerably lower or undetectable levels of arsenic. Unlike conventionally raised chickens, it's not legal to feed organically raised chickens arsenic.

Long term exposure to small amounts of arsenic can cause cancer and nerve damage. Arsenic has also been found to contribute to heart disease, diabetes, and a decline in mental functioning. Regularly consuming animals that have been eating arsenic may take a few years off your life, but how would you know that when you're lying on your deathbed? Most people don't. They simply see the disease - but remain unaware of the common poisons that cause the disease.

The Ultimate Body Cleanse.Cleaning Up!offers deep cleansing and using methods in this book, people have gotten rid of dozens of different types of health problems, as well as just losing excess weight, thinking more clearly, and feeling better.

Kim's next book chronicles events in her life that happen to match patterns in the Bible. She's also found three places in the Bible that tell us its about these patterns and even asking you to match them.
Here's a little from the upcoming book...
In Isaiah 22:20, it says, "And it must occur in that day that I will call my servant, namely Eliakim." But, because these prophecies are cryptic and they aren't meant to be understood until they are understood, it's only the last three letters.
A few lines later, it says, "From the land of Kittim it has been revealed to them."
Here, you just take out any three middle letters, and again, it's the name of the person bringing you this message, or the sacred secret of the prophecy. Actually, if you take those two passages, Kim is about the only name you can get from both of them.
In Numbers 1:1 – 1:18, it's talking about "the family" and mentions Pagiel. It also twice mentions February 1st, (Kim's birthday) and then says that the youngest is 20 years old. Kim's little sister Paige is currently 20 years old.
In Chronicles 1 11:20 it mentions the brother of Joab and then in the same sentence uses the word brandishing. Kim's middle name is Jo and her older sister's name is Brandi. There are other patterns to her sisters too but these sort of mention them by name.
Of course, it helps if you know that there is a magical spiritual reality available that comes deep cleansing and often major dietary upgrades. It's also why Jesus was teaching the same thing, if you find his teachings in the Essene Gospel of Peace. In this text, he even says things like, "You'll never see the father unless you clean your colon." But, this is paraphrased...
In the Bible Jesus says things more like, happy are those who wash their robes, as they can enter the tree of life. The tree of life is elsewhere explained as God's paradise. He also said, first clean the inside of the cup and then the outside will also be clean.

Meat

Two Entirely Different Animals: Grass-Fed Meat is Superior to Grain-Fed Meat
(NaturalNews) The vast majority of meat sold in grocery stores today hardly resembles meat from fifty years ago and prior. With the emergence of post-WWII industrial agriculture that focused heavily on grain cultivation, American grasslands and pastures were replaced with endless rows of corn and wheat. Subsequently, cows and other pasture animals began being fed high-protein, high-grain diets that fatten them quickly but change the composition of their meat and fat. Thus meat, a once healthy and nutritious food source, has become the primary culprit in dietary-invoked illness and disease among the population due to its dramatically altered nutritional composition.

Long before the days of commercial grain farming and what is deemed modern agriculture, mankind hunted, foraged, gardened, and lived entirely off the land. Wild animals ate the grasses and plants native to the region, as well as smaller prey animals, and man would then hunt and gather these animals for food.

As burgeoning technology led to advances in farming and animal husbandry, substantial alterations in food-raising methods ensued, leading to a slew of unintended consequences.

Most American cattle used for food today are confined to feedlots for most of their lives. Cesspools of manure and disease, feedlots are where typical commercial cattle are fed grains like corn and soy to fatten them up before slaughter. In contrast to open, green pastures, feedlots are filthy, unnatural environments that constrain cattle and summon them to misery and disease. The unnatural concentration of large masses of manure often runs off into streams and water supplies, contaminating nearby farms, groves, and even municipal drinking water reservoirs.

The grains used to feed cattle also require tremendous swaths of land and pasture to be transformed into industrial agriculture factories in order to grow the crops, destroying the natural habitat and ultimately depleting the soil of nutrients. Chemicals, pesticides, and genetic modification are usually used in the crop-growing process, contaminating both the ground and the crops.

Besides the land alterations, the entire composition of meat is changed when cattle is fed grain rather than grass. Ruminant cattle, like cows and sheep, possess a special digestive system in which grasses are converted into digestible nutrients. Unlike humans who are unable to properly assimilate grasses and their nutrients, these animals are able to convert the plant cellulose into protein and fats. The result is a meat composition of roughly a 1:1 ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids with omega-3 dominating slightly. Other benefits include high amounts of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), beta carotene, and vitamins A and E.

Grain, however, so disturbs the delicate digestive system of a ruminant that, unless done gradually, can kill the animal. "Feedlot bloat", a term used to describe the buildup of trapped gas in the rumen of the animal, is the primary reason why feedlot cattle must be feed antibiotics and hormones in order to keep them alive. Their digestive systems are unable to process the immense amounts of starch in their feed, turning their pH from neutral to acid and causing them to contract a myriad of diseases.

Though grain-fed animals fatten more quickly and can be slaughtered at a much faster pace, the composition of their meat can contain a ratio exceeding 1:15 of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids, a ratio so devastatingly unhealthy that modern, commercial meat has been implicated in causing heart disease, cancer, obesity, allergies, insulin resistance, autoimmune disease, and a whole host of other contemporary maladies. Since grain-fed animals ingest little roughage, their meat contains far less nutrients and vitamins and far more unhealthy saturated fat.

The body requires a properbalanceof the right fats; if the balance is offset, the body is prone to disease. They say, "you are what you eat", and that statement couldn't be more true both for cattle and for humans. What one eats will dictate what one is, compositionally speaking. It is important to recognize the distinction between grain-fed meat and grass-fed meat and purchase accordingly.

Grass-fed meats are naturally leaner than commercial meats and contain the ideal balance of fats and fatty acids, a generous dose of vital nutrients, and flavor that comes naturally in the meat. Grass feeding allows cattle to roam in their natural environments and forage on a diet that is ideal for their systems. The animals typically never get sick when free to "chew the cud" on the open range and thus do not require hormones and antibiotics. There is no excess waste runoff as the manure fertilizes the fields, not the feedlot, and thus provides nutrients for the new grass to grow.

Meat cannot simply be referred to as meat; grass-fed and grain-fed are two entirely different foods. One is a protein-dense, nutritional powerhouse while the other is a product of man-made greed.

Processed Meat Unsafe For Human Consumption

Processed Meat Unsafe For Human Consumption; Cancer Experts Warn of Dietary Dangers

World cancer experts have finally declared what NaturalNews readers learned nearly four years ago: That processed meats cause cancer, and anyone seeking to avoid cancer should avoid eating all processed meats for life.

Hundreds of cancer researchers took part in a five-year project spanning more than 7,000 clinical studies and designed to document the links between diet and cancer. Their conclusion, published in the World Cancer Research Fund's report,Food, Nutrition, Physical Activity and the Prevention of Cancer: a Global Perspective (2007), has rocked thehealthworld with a declaration thatall people should immediately stop buying and eatingprocessed meatproductsand that all processedmeatshould be avoided forlife!

Processed meats, the report explains, are simply too dangerous for humanconsumption. And why? Because they containchemical additivesthat are known to greatly increase theriskof various cancers, including colorectalcancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, leukemia, brain tumors, pancreatic cancer and many more. The report, published atthis DietAndCancerReport.org websitealso recommends thatconsumers:

• Avoid all sugary soft drinks for life.
• Exercise at least 30 minutes a day.
• Get lean and fit, without becoming underweight.
• Limit consumption of ALL meats (even fresh meat).
• Breastfeed all infants for their first six months, avoiding infant formula.

Sadly, the WCRF still does not recommend that consumers use nutritional supplements to help protect themselves from cancer, indicating that the group still has a lot to learn about the role of medicinal mushrooms, sea vegetables, microalgae, Chinese herbs, rainforest herbsand superfood extracts in preventing and reversing cancer. But at least the group's recommendation that consumers now avoid all processedmeat productsis a huge step in the right direction. It is the first time that any internationally-recognized cancer organization has found the courage to make a partial proclaimation about the health hazards of thechemicalsfound in processed meatproducts. It's almost as big a deal as when the American Medical Association, after years of taking millions of dollars from tobaccocompanies, finally admitted that smoking causes lung cancer andheart disease. (A decade after the scientific evidence was irrefutable, of course, but then again, theAMAwas making money offBig Tobaccoby running tobacco ads in JAMA...)

What is "processed meat" exactly?

A woman asked me this question at a recent liveeventwhere I was warning the audience about thedangersof chemicals found in popular grocery products. Frankly, I was surprised to hear the question. But I've since learned that many people really don't know the difference between processed meat and non-processed meat ("fresh" meat).

Here's the difference:

Fresh meatusually has only one ingredient: The meat! Fresh meat is refrigerated and has a very short shelf life (just a few days, usually). It's usually packaged in simple wrappers, with no fancy logos orcolorprinting.

Processed meathas manyingredientsand is usually packaged for long-term shelf life. These products almost always containsodium nitrite, the cancer-causing chemical additive that meat companies use as a color fixer to turn their meat products a bright red "fresh-looking" color. Processed meat products include:

• Bacon
• Sausage
• Pepperoni
• Beef jerky
• Deli slices
• Hot dogs
• Sandwich meat (including those served atrestaurants)
• Ham
• Meat "gift" products like Christmas sausages
• Meat used in canned soups
• Meat used in frozen pizza
• Meat used in kid's lunch products
• Meat used in ravioli, spaghetti or Italian pasta products

... and many more meat products.

Unless it says "NITRITE FREE" on the front label, you can bet it's made with cancer-causingsodiumnitrite!

(Hint: You will only find nitrite-free meat products in two places in the grocerystore: 1) In the fresh meat section where you can buy freshly-ground hamburger, for example, and 2) In the freezer, where you can find "natural" meat products that are nitrite-free.

What are thedangerous chemicalsin processed meats?

Sodium nitriteis one of the most dangerous chemicals added toprocessed meats. Please be aware:

• You MUST read the ingredients list to find the sodium nitrite! Meat product companies do not list this ingredient on the front of the package.

• Even ORGANIC meat products and NATURAL meat products can still contain sodium nitrite. So read the labels to be sure, andavoid buying any meat product made with sodium nitrite.

• Be especially careful offoodfor kids! Virtually all packaged food products containing meat and marketed tochildrencontain sodium nitrite! (Read the ingredients to protect your children.)

Monosodium glutamate (MSG)is a second dangerous chemical found in virtually all processed meat products. MSG is a dangerous excitotoxin linked toneurological disorderssuch as migraine headaches, Alzheimer'sdisease, loss of appetite control, obesity and many other serious health conditions. Manufacturers use MSG to add flavor to dead-tasting processed meat products.

Essentially, dead meat products look andtastedead (because they are), so meat companies use the following three ingredients to make them look fresh and taste interesting:

Sodium nitritemakes the meat look red and fresh. (But it promotes cancer.)

MSGmakes the meat taste savory. (But it causes neurologicaldisorders.)

Processed saltmakes the meat taste more interesting. (But itcausesnutritional problems and high blood pressure.)

On top of these three chemical additives, processed meats also contain saturated animalfatthat is often contaminated with PCBs, heavy metals, pesticide residues and other dangerous substances.

You can learn more about dangerous chemicals in the food supply in my book,Grocery Warning, available from Truth Publishing.

Or you can download my freeHonest Food Guidefromwww.HonestFoodGuide.orgwhich reveals the true health dangers of numerous chemicals added to processed foods. TheHonest Food Guidehas now been downloaded by over one million people.

Protect yourself and your family

Processed meats promote cancer. There is simply no question about the scientific validity of that statement, and anyone who disagrees with it is either working for themeat industryor hopelessly behind the times on their nutritionalresearch.

The processed meatindustry, of course, insists that processed meat is perfectlyhealthyand that you can eat all you want. It's no surprise, of course: Big Tobacco insisted thatcigarettesaren't really bad for your health and that nicotine isn't addictive, either. No industry is really willing to admit that its products are hazardous to human health, and the processed meat industry is no exception.

To protect yourself from these dangerous processed food products, here are the action steps to take:

1) Check the ingredients of all processed meat products in your refrigerator and pantry. Throw out any products containing sodium nitrite or MSG (monosodium glutamate).

2) Inform your spouse, roomates or children of what you're doing and why you're doing it. Show them the sodium nitrite right on the label of the products as you throw them out. Let them know that the World Cancer Research Fund now recommends that ALL consumers avoidingeatingprocessed meats for life!

3) Boycott all processed meat products for life! Never buy processed meats again. That includes shopping at the grocery store, eating at a restaurant or consumingfoodsat a social event.

4) Spread the word. Tell others about the dangers of sodium nitrite. Print out the Honest Food Guide (www.HonestFoodGuide.com) and share it, if you want. Let people know that processed meats are dangerous for their health.

What's next: The future of processed meats

My research tells me thatchemical additives in processed meats are emerging as the next bigfood safetyissue to hit mainstreamawareness. Just a few years ago, most consumers had never heard of trans fats or the dangers of hydrogenatedoils, for example. But once that issue went mainstream, fast food restaurants all over the country announced changes to avoid hydrogenated oils.

I believe that sodium nitrite in processed meats is the next big foodsafetyissue that's about to break into mainstream awareness. More and more consumers are suddenly aware thathot dogspromote cancer, or thatbaconconsumption is incredibly bad for your health. As awareness of this issue builds, there's going to be increasing political pressure to pass laws that protect the public by strictly limited or banning the use of sodium nitrite in processed meats.

The meat industry, of course, which seems to have absolutely no respect for human or animal life, will fight this every inch of the way. The people in charge of meat-producing companies exhibit zero concern for the health of the consumers who actually eat their products, and they remain entirely focused on the profits to be had from selling moretoxicmeat products to gullible consumers.

But just like Big Tobacco's marketing methods and fraudulent science was finally exposed as wholesale fraud, the processed meat industry is going to have to face scientific facts sooner or later: Sodium nitrite promotes cancer, andeating processed meat products substantially increases your risk of cancer. There's no denying it or arguing about it, at least not by any sane person. Eating cancer-causing chemicals is blatantly and irrefutably dangerous to your health.

Why some people commit nutritionalsuicide

Of course, many low-income, low-education consumers still continue to smoke cigarettes AND eat processed meat products. (Attend any NASCAR event and you'll find a whole crowd of 'em!) But the smart consumers (who represent the real future of human civilization, by the way) are wising up and increasingly opting for healthier foods made without dangerous chemicals.

There are people in society today who exhibit a strong desire to commit nutritional suicide. For those people, there isbeef jerky, hot dogs, frozen pizza, cigarettes and over-hyped "energy" drinks. The future of these people is easy to see: Cancer, diabetes, heart disease, chemotherapy, pharmaceuticals, pain, death and bankruptcy.

Thankfully, there are other people who believe in taking care of their health and in living informed lives with outstanding health. For these people, there are living foods, superfoods, raw cacao, sprouts, rainforestherbs, sunshine, juicing and joyfulexercise. Their future is also clear: Exceptional mental performance, freedom from chronic pain, excellent vitality and longevity, spiritual awareness, abundant living and much more.

Which group do you want to belong to?

You make that decision every time you shop for food. When you buy processed meats, you put yourself on a timeline track towards disease, suffering and medical victimization. But when you avoid meat products and focus on a plant-baseddiet, you are creating a future filled of abundance and health. It's up to you to decide which of these futures you'd rather create.

Regardless of which future you choose, there's no judgement from me. You're free to do what you want with your life and your own body. Some people choose to abuse their bodies as chemical playgrounds, living in the moment and dying young. That's their choice. Others choose to extend their lives and honor their bodies, living an extended, purpose-filled life. That's fine, too. I don't really care how people live their lives, I just want people tolive consciouslyand understand thattheir decisions create results.

Anyone who decides to eat processed meat products on a repeated basis is simply creating a result. That result is cancer, and over enough years, that cancer will grow to the point where it shows up on a scan. That's when the doctor says, "You have cancer" and starts prescribing even more toxic chemicals known as chemotherapy agents. This is not a disease with an unknown cause. In fact, cancer is incredibly easy to both prevent AND cure -- but only if you understand the fundamentals ofnutrition.

For now, just remember:

Processed meats = sodium nitrite = cancer

If you don't want cancer, don't eat processed meats. Ever.

(And if you really want to be healthy, eat a plant-based diet for life. But that's another article altogether...)
