Dog Info - History of Dogs Believed to Be a Descendant to the Wolves

Though there are some different accounts of the most likely heritage of dogs, most people believe that dogs are the descendants of the gray wolf. There were the first signs of relationships between man and wolves that date back to 10,000-15,000 years ago. It is not certain whether it was man who first approached the wolves to befriend or if it was the wolf. Whoever approached the other first is not as important as the bond that formed between them.

Back then, the wolves and man both benefited from having each other. Man used the wolves to hunt with, and for keeping flocks together. Wolves were given substance and food from man. They are very social animals, and like humans they too enjoy and thrive on companionship. They also live in groups or packs, and have different social ranks like people do. Over time, the wolf eventually had some genetic changes that produced different breeds and kinds, which is said to have evolved into the many breeds of dogs that exist today.
The early bond between wolves and man makes a lot of sense to dog lovers. There has always been a special connection between man and dog, and it only makes sense that this evolved long ago. The companionship that the wolves and man brought to each other back then has continued to grow and strengthen in bonds with animals and humans. The genetic differences that evolved from gray wolves to dogs is complex, and there are certainly a lot of traits that changed during the process which allowed dogs to be more tame yet still have the natural instinct to hunt.
They are a very intelligent animal, and many people adore the friendship and company that they bring to their lives. There are a lot of good resources online that you can check out to learn more about the history of dogs, as well as how they came around to be so different. The range of size and temperament among many other interesting traits, is always been a source of wonderment for scientists and researchers. All dogs are clean creatures by nature.  They like their space and area to be clean and not soiled.  Most dogs like to know where they should urinate and defecate, regardless. If they have been taught to go on the grass and dirt, that is where they will go.

When you begin house training a place should be used that is small and enclosed area. An area in the kitchen, garage, or bathroom is a place that will work well.  If you are planning on crate training, its best for small dogs or puppies, but a larger dog, it can be to confining.
To make house training successful, you will need to spend time with your dog in this area, by playing with him, so he or she can get more comfortable with it.  Its also best to have their feeding area and sleeping area in this area, so that they will realize this is their living quarters and they won't soil the area that they live in.  It will take a bit of time before your dog gets the hang of it, so if he does mess, don't punish him for that.  It takes consistency and patience.

Why Don't Domestic Cats Roar? Lions and Tigers Do!

All cats have certain characteristics that make them cats. In this article we will discuss - "Domestic house cats vocalization - or lack of a roar and cats purring". To do this we have to look at the entire cat family. Zoologist have developed an identification system of names where all plants and animals can be placed. The technical name of domestic cats belongs to the class Mammalia (mammals), the order Carnivora (meat-eaters), the family Felidae (cats), the genus Felis (lesser cats), and the species cattus (domestic cats): that's your cat, Felis cattus.

The lion and tiger are of the family:genus Felidae (cat): Panthera, (large or greater cats) and just to be complete, there are two other genus for cats, which are Acinonyx, the cheetahs and the Smilodon, the saber-toothed tigers, who we missed by only 12,000 years.
We will only be discussing the greater and lesser cats. The most obvious difference between the two genera is that greater cats can roar and the lesser cats cannot. The throat structure is what determines the ability to roar or not. The most significant factor is the hyoid bones (the small bones) that support the larynx. In the greater cats, these bones have been partially replaced by cartilage, allowing extraordinary flexibility of the throat and enabling the greater cat, lions and tigers, to roar. In the lesser cats, these bones are rigid eliminating the flexibility necessary to make the roaring sound; therefore the lesser cat, domestic cat, cannot roar. Contrast the deep-throated, deafening roar of a lion to the meow of the domestic cat, the meow even though much quieter, can relay the message the cat wants to get across. They are very persistent when hey want something.
